COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

As we seek to elevate our community, we’ve done so in a way to honor those who have made a difference in the Oklahoma LGBTQ community.  That’s where Seún comes in.

For over two decades, Seún has unknowingly shined her bright light in our lives, not just here at THK but throughout our vibrant Oklahoma community.  Put simply, she’s our muse.

Seún will tell you she’s always known she was a transwoman.  She was living out loud long before any of us knew what trans meant.  Seún normalized it by being true to herself; she’s led with conviction, hope, and so much class, that it’s impossible to tell our story without telling you Seún’s.  May we all be so lucky to have a Seún in our lives.

This is Seún’s third campaign with THK.  When she walks into a photoshoot it’s as if the sky opens. Her photos have quickly become iconic, but they fail in comparison to the woman she is.

As of this writing, more than 34 transgender people were killed in the United States in 2022.  Most recently, an Oklahoma native lost his life in the Colorado Springs Club Q mass shooting.  Of the 34 killed this year, the majority of those were Black transwomen.

Malcom X said: “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman.  The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman.  The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.”  The work continues.

Yet, there are so many powerful Black women who have made and continue to make history.

Seún is one of many.

We love you, sis.
